Airline logos and reference data for aviation sites and apps

Aviation sites, spotter apps and fleet directories are organised around airlines, so every page needs a current logo, often in more than one treatment. The logostream Airline Logo API returns the logo for an IATA or ICAO code (1,100+ airlines) in 8 static variants, and its livery, airline history and aircraft type endpoints cover the reference data around it.

    2 characters = IATA, 3 = ICAO

    Request for the selected variant
    GET https://airlines-api.logostream.dev/airlines/iata/LH?key=YOUR_API_KEY&variant=logo&format=png

Why airline logos are hard to maintain on aviation sites

A single aviation site can need hundreds of airline logos: one per fleet page, news item, route listing and airline profile. Collecting them by hand means chasing brand changes, mismatched sizes and files with a coloured box baked in. Historic carriers add another snag, because an old code can belong to a different airline than the one that holds it today.

How to fill an aviation site from one code and one key

Fetch each logo by the IATA or ICAO code you already store, and set the treatment with the variant parameter: white for dark layouts, transparent for your own backgrounds, icon or tail for tight spots. Fill the rest of the page with the same key: liveries by airline and aircraft type, code history for renames and mergers, and aircraft type data.

How do aviation sites get airline logos, liveries and history?

Aviation sites request airline logos by the IATA or ICAO code already stored in their database. GET /airlines/iata/{iata} and GET /airlines/icao/{icao} return the logo in seven named variants, from full colour and white to transparent, icon and tail. A code that is not in the database can return a placeholder image instead of a logo.

The reference data around the logo comes from further endpoints. GET /livery/icao/{code} returns a PNG of an aircraft type in an airline's colours, available from the Startup plan. GET /v1/aircraft-types lists types with manufacturer and range (Startup plan and up), GET /v1/stats/airline/{code} returns route counts, hubs and fleet, and GET /v1/airlines/history lists mergers, rebrands and successors.

Logos are PNG on every plan, up to 200px on Free and 600px on Startup, with SVG on Pro and Enterprise. Startup allows caching logos for up to 24 hours, while Free logos are requested live. The Free plan includes 20,000 requests per month.

Where aviation sites use logos, liveries and history

    Fleet and airline directories

Give every airline entry a logo and put its fleet next to it. One code per row keeps a directory of hundreds of carriers consistent, and the aircraft type data fills in manufacturer and range.

    Livery galleries

Show how an airline's aircraft look. The livery endpoint takes an airline ICAO code and an aircraft type and returns a PNG of that aircraft in the airline's colours, so a gallery page is a loop over codes. Livery images start with the Startup plan.

    Airline history and research

Resolve the airline behind an old code. The history endpoint lists mergers, rebrands and successors, and a year parameter tells you who held a code in that year, which saves a hand-built lookup table for historical flight data.

    Alliance and airline overviews

Lay airlines out by alliance, region or country as logo grids. The tail and icon variants keep dense overview pages compact, while the full logos carry the brand where there is room.

Fetch a tail logo with one request

Fetch the tail variant of a carrier as a PNG

    curl "https://airlines-api.logostream.dev/airlines/iata/QR?key=YOUR_API_KEY&variant=tail&format=png" -o qr-tail.png

    Which endpoints aviation sites use

    • Airline logo by IATA code
      GET /airlines/iata/{iata}

The call behind the lookup demo. Variants include logo, logo-white, logo-transparent, logo-bg-white, icon-transparent, tail and tail-3D. PNG on every plan, SVG on Pro and Enterprise.

    • Aircraft livery by airline ICAO code
      GET /livery/icao/{code}

Takes an aircraft type, for example type=787, and returns a PNG of that aircraft in the airline's livery. Livery API, Startup and up.

    • Airline code history
      GET /v1/airlines/history

Mergers, rebrands and successors for an airline; add year to see who held a code in that year. For plan access, see the pricing page and the docs.

    • Aircraft types
      GET /v1/aircraft-types

Aircraft types with manufacturer, range and fleet usage data. Aircraft Types API, Startup and up.

    • Airline statistics
      GET /v1/stats/airline/{code}

Route counts, hubs and a fleet breakdown per airline. Stats API, included on every plan.

    What aviation sites get

    One code, any treatment

Eight static variants come from the same lookup, among them full colour, white, transparent, on white, icon and tail.

    IATA or ICAO

Use whichever code your database stores. No translation table between the two systems.

    2,700+ liveries

Show aircraft in an airline's colours by airline and aircraft type, from the Startup plan up.

    History behind old codes

Look up renames, mergers and successors instead of maintaining your own table of defunct carriers.

    Animated icons

Pro and Enterprise include animated airline icons for featured spots and app screens.

    Free tier to build on

20,000 requests per month cost nothing. The Free plan covers airline logos as PNG up to 200px plus the Airlines, Routes and Stats data APIs.

    Which plan fits aviation sites

Free covers 20,000 requests per month. Startup starts at $40 per month. Pro and Enterprise add SVG and custom caching. Prices and limits are listed openly.

When this is not the right tool for an aviation site

    • You need photos of individual aircraft or registrations. The livery endpoint returns an aircraft type in an airline's colours, not a specific airframe.
    • You need live positions, schedules or flight status for a tracker. logostream supplies logos and reference data, and the live feed has to come from elsewhere.

    How we check this page

Logos and variants shown here are requested live from the Airline Logo API. Flight times, fares and CO2 figures in the demos are sample data and labelled as such. Endpoints and parameters are taken from the public OpenAPI spec.

Airline logos for aviation sites: frequently asked questions

The Airline Logo API covers 1,100+ airlines. You look a logo up by IATA code, such as QR, or by ICAO code, such as QTR, so you can use whichever one your database already stores. Airlines come in the same set of static variants, so a directory with hundreds of entries stays visually consistent. Carriers that are not in the database return a generated placeholder instead of a logo.

Use logo-white for dark layouts and logo-transparent when the logo sits on your own background or an image. The logo variant usually comes on the airline's brand colour and logo-bg-white on plain white, which suits cards and tables. icon-transparent and tail give you compact marks for dense lists.

Yes. The livery endpoint takes an airline code and an aircraft type, for example type=787, and returns a PNG of that aircraft in the airline's colours. The catalogue holds 2,700+ liveries. They are part of the Startup plan and above, with PNG up to 600px on Startup and up to 2752 × 1536 px on Pro.

The airline history endpoint lists mergers, rebrands and successor airlines for a carrier. Add a year, for example iata=AZ&year=2018, to see which airline held that code in that year. That helps when you research historical flight data. For plan access to this endpoint, see the pricing page and the API docs.

Yes. The Aircraft Types API describes 385+ types with manufacturer, range and fleet usage, and is part of the Startup plan and above. The Stats API returns route counts, hubs and a fleet breakdown per airline, and the Airlines Data API returns airline profiles including alliances. Both of those are included on the Free plan.

The Free plan includes 20,000 requests per month, with airline logos as PNG up to 200px. Logos must be requested live on the Free plan. Startup, from $40 per month, allows caching for up to 24 hours, and Pro and Enterprise add custom caching. See the pricing page for current limits.
